TailridePasswords and 2FA
The optional credential vault, unattended two-factor sign-in with TOTP setup keys, and interactive sign-in.
The vault
Saving a portal login is optional. When you do, it is encrypted with the OS keychain — macOS Keychain or Windows DPAPI — under your own user account. It is never written to a plain file and never sent to Tailride.
Passwords in the sidebar lists every saved login. A login can be edited, tested (Open the site and check the sign-in works) or removed at any time.
Interactive sign-in
Without a saved login — or when a portal needs a CAPTCHA, an SMS code or a security question — the app shows the portal's sign-in window once and keeps the session afterwards. The window stays open through password-recovery, registration, multi-factor and identity-provider pages, and extends its deadline while you are typing.
Unattended 2FA with a TOTP setup key
Portals that use an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Authy…) can run without you:
- In the portal's security settings, start adding an authenticator. Next to the QR code, most portals offer "Can't scan? Enter this key manually" — copy that base32 setup key.
- In Tailride Desktop, open the supplier's password entry and paste the key into the 2FA setup key field.
- Finish the portal's setup by entering the six-digit code; the app can generate it for you.
From then on the app computes the six-digit code itself (RFC 6238) whenever the portal asks.
Keep your authenticator app too
Add the same key to your usual authenticator app so you can still sign in from anywhere. Tailride Desktop does not replace it.
Auto-fill
Auto-fill is best-effort: a curated set of login forms (Amazon, Stripe and a generic heuristic) is filled automatically. For everything else the interactive window opens, and the session is kept.
