Skip Rules
Skip emails from specific senders or domains during invoice scanning.
Overview
Skip Rules let you exclude emails from specific senders or entire domains from invoice scanning. Unlike AI Rules, these are simple, deterministic filters — an email matching a rule is always skipped, with no AI involved.
Use Skip Rules when a sender regularly triggers unwanted invoices: newsletters with PDF attachments, internal reports, receipts you track elsewhere, and so on.
Skip Rules only affect future scans. Invoices already extracted from a matching sender are not removed.
Rule Types
Email address
newsletter@vendor.com skips only emails coming from that exact address.
Domain
vendor.com skips emails from every address at that domain, including subdomains such as billing.vendor.com.
How It Works
- Rules apply to all your connected email sources (Gmail, Outlook, IMAP, Yahoo) and to your forwarding address.
- Matching happens before any processing — a skipped email never reaches invoice detection and never consumes credits.
- For forwarded emails, rules are matched against the original sender of the forwarded message, not the person who forwarded it. This applies both to inline forwards and to emails forwarded as attachments.
Managing Skip Rules
Adding a Rule
Navigate to Settings > Skip rules
Enter an email address (e.g. billing@vendor.com) or a domain (e.g. vendor.com)
Click "Add" or press Enter
You can also create rules directly from the invoice list: when you move email-sourced documents to Excluded, the confirmation dialog offers to block their senders — select the addresses you want and they are added to your Skip Rules with the move. Senders already covered by an existing rule are not offered again.
Removing a Rule
Click the trash icon next to the rule you want to remove
Confirm the deletion in the popup dialog
Skip Rules vs AI Rules
| Skip Rules | AI Rules | |
|---|---|---|
| Matching | Exact sender or domain | Natural language instructions |
| Behavior | Deterministic — always applied | AI-guided — balanced with document evidence |
| Effect | Email is skipped entirely | Influences how the document is processed |
If you want to skip emails based on content, subject, or document type rather than the sender, use AI Rules instead.
